What We Collect, And What We Don't

Short version: almost nothing. This page says so properly, in plain English, because a privacy policy nobody can read is not really a privacy policy.

We do not track you. There is no analytics on this site, no advertising network, no tracking pixels, and no cookies. Nobody is building a profile of you here, and nothing about your visit is sold or handed to anyone.

The only information we ever hold is what you deliberately type into one of our forms and send us. If you never fill in a form, we never learn anything about you at all.

Who we are

Show Me Market is a free directory of craft fairs, vintage shows, farmers markets and flea markets in and around Jefferson County, Missouri. It is run by two people who vend at these markets themselves. It is not affiliated with any county, city or government agency.

You can reach us any time at advertise@showmemarket.com.

What your browser stores

We set no cookies. Two small notes are saved by your own browser, on your own device, and neither one is ever sent to us or to anybody else. You can wipe both at any time by clearing your browser data for this site.

  • That you have already rated a show. It is how the button changes to "Rating Sent" instead of inviting you to rate the same show twice. It holds the show, not you.
  • That you closed the advert bar at the bottom of the screen, so it stays closed.

Nothing on this page comes from anywhere else

Every part of this site is served from our own server. The typefaces, the stylesheet, the images, all of it. Loading a page here contacts nobody but us.

That was not true until recently. The typefaces used to load from Google Fonts, which meant Google's servers saw your IP address and which page you were on, the same as they do on a great many other websites. We have since put the fonts on our own server, and there is no Google code of any kind on this site.

What happens when you fill in a form

Everything goes to our own server. It is emailed to us and saved to a file that only we can open, and it is never passed to a third party. There is no captcha, because the usual ones report your behaviour back to an advertising company.

Rating a show

We ask which show, how it went across seven categories, whether you would work it again, and whether you personally vended there. There is no name and no email address anywhere on that form.

At the end there are three optional boxes: the best thing about the show, the biggest thing they could fix, and advice for other vendors. Nothing you write in those three boxes is ever published. They come to us, we read them, and that is where they stop. That is deliberate, and it is what keeps a rating from turning into a public argument with an organizer.

If you tell us you vended, we then offer to publish your report sooner if you give us your business name, so we can check it against the vendor list for that show. Your business name is not published either, and it is never attached to your ratings. It is only ever used to check that a report is genuine. Saying no thanks costs you nothing: your rating has already been saved by that point.

What does get published is the totals. A show's card shows how many vendors rated it and how those ratings fell across the categories. No individual report, and no names.

Submitting an event, or asking to be listed as a vendor

These ask for the details of the event or business, and for a way to reach you. We use that to check the listing and to reply to you. We do not add you to a mailing list, because we do not have one.

Your address, and why it is scrambled

When a form is submitted we take your IP address, run it through a one-way scramble, and keep only the scrambled result. It lets us notice if the same source floods us with hundreds of submissions. It cannot be turned back into your address, and we never store the real one.

What our host keeps

The site sits on shared hosting, and like every web server on earth it keeps routine access logs. Those are held by the hosting company under their own retention rules and we do not use them to identify anyone.

Advertising

Adverts on this site are sold directly by us and served as plain images from our own server. There is no ad network, no auction, no retargeting, and no advertiser is given any information about you. If we ever change that, this page changes first and we will say so plainly.

Links to other sites

We link out to organizers, venues and vendors. Once you follow a link you are on somebody else's website under somebody else's rules, and we have no say in what they collect.

Children

This is a listings site for local markets and it is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect anything from them.

Asking us to delete something

Email advertise@showmemarket.com and ask, and we will remove what you sent us. Because ratings carry no name, tell us roughly which show and when you sent it and we will find it.

If this page changes

We will update the date below. If we ever start collecting something genuinely new, we will say so on the site rather than quietly editing this page.
